(ROCKWALL, TX – Aug. 25, 2016) The JER Chilton YMCA reached a special milestone in its history when it recently welcomed third generation member Grant Miller to its Board of Managers. Grant joins his grandfather Dr. Frank Miller and father Dr. Bart Miller, who each currently serve on the Board.
The Miller family has been a mainstay at the YMCA in Rockwall since 1969 when Frank served as the first Board Chair. Frank was also responsible for leading a campaign fundraising effort that resulted in the Y’s current gymnasium. “I have appreciated the opportunity to participate in leadership at the Rockwall YMCA since its beginning,” Frank said. “I am very proud to see my son Bart take such an interest in the YMCA and volunteer his time as a Board Member. And now my grandson Grant is serving as Youth Board Member this year. What a family legacy! I am proud beyond words!”
Frank’s son Bart joined the Board back in 2003. Bart has practiced at Rockwall Crossing Orthodontics for the past 13 years and is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists. Like his father Frank, Bart joined the U.S. Navy and was commissioned as Surface Warfare Officer, accepted into the Naval Nuclear Propulsion program, and served on board the guided-missile cruiser, USS Truxtun, stationed in Washington state. “The Y has been a part of my life as long as I can remember,” Bart said. “It is nice to be a part of an organization that is based on Christian values. And what a blessing to have served with my Dad on the Board and now my son!”
Grant’s membership on the Board marks the first time in JER Chilton YMCA history that three generations have served on its Board of Managers. “It’s an honor to serve on a Board where I am following in the footsteps of two men whom I have looked up to growing up,” Grant said.
JER Chilton YMCA Executive Director Bonnie LaVielle said in order to bring a millennial perspective to its Board, the Y decided to select three high school students, including Grant, to join its Board.
“What an honor it is to have a family like the Millers who are so involved in the community be such great leaders in our YMCA,” LaVielle said.
