GISD schools rate in top six percent statewide

(GARLAND, TX – Sept. 17, 2016) With more than 8,600 schools throughout Texas, seven from Garland ISD rate among the top six percent. On Tuesday, the Texas Education Agency released distinction designations earned by campuses statewide. These are part of the 2016 accountability ratings. Approximately 400 schools in Texas achieved a Met Standard rating and all available distinction designations. GISD’s Austin, Hillside, Kimberlin and Walnut Glen Academies for Excellence, as well as Roach and Spring Creek elementary schools and North Garland High School are among those campuses.

In comparison to neighboring districts, GISD is among just 26 in the region with one or more schools earning all available distinction designations. GISD also boasts 16 percent of the 45 campuses in Dallas County that achieved the state’s highest accountability rating. Austin, Hillside, Kimberlin, North Garland Roach, Spring Creek and Walnut Glen represent 10 percent of the district’s total number of schools. Only one other large district in the area had a higher percentage of campuses earn all available distinction designations.

“Spring Creek’s faculty and staff are both humbled and honored to have received such high distinctions from the state of Texas,” said Principal Sue Sheridan. “When provided with the opportunity, any goal set can be met. The collective efforts and passion of our students, parents, teachers, cafeteria workers, custodians, secretaries, administrative staff, and community ensure that our students are able to achieve at high levels. Without each of us working together, we would not have the unique foundation that has provided us with continued success.”
