(ROCKWALL/HEATH, TX – Nov. 9, 2016) Heath Senior Cade Govender and the powerhouse Hawks Varsity golf team set two new school records with an impressive tournament win at the recently completed Waxahachie Winter Classic at Waxahachie Country Club, November 4-5.
Govendar set a new school two-day tournament record with rounds of 71-68-139 which gave him a 12-shot individual victory. The team total of 598, another school record was good for a whopping 37-stroke victory over host Waxahachie, 60 shots better than third place Woodrow Wilson.
Along with Govender’s medalist honor for the Hawks, Sr. Nick Archer was 4th place with 152 (76-76); Jr. Lane Howell was 5th with 153 (77-76); Soph. Jake Renfro was the 6th place with 154 (79-75) and Jr. Blake Hydeman finished out the scoring for the Hawks with 164 (83-79).
Govender was followed by Michael Hernandez who tied for second from Woodrow Wilson at 151 and along with Tyler Berryhill from Maypearl HS also at 151.
The previous Heath golf tournament record was held by the 2009 team when they shot 604 (303-301) at the Dist. 10-4A Tournament.
Heath will play next at Central Texas Shootout which will be played at Cottonwood Creek in Waco, November 18-19. There will be a field of 20 5A and 6A teams. The tournament will is hosted by San Antonio Churchill.
