(ROCKWALL, TX – Feb 21, 2017) Leadership Rockwall 2017 has committed to provide a state of the art technology lab for the students at the Boys & Girls Club of Rockwall—and thanks, in large part, to the generosity of one special donor, the dream will become a reality. Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Rockwall has stepped up to donate $20,000 to the Computers for Kids project, a substantial sum which entitles the hospital to naming rights to the much needed computer lab.
The Boys & Girls Club of Rockwall held their annual Masquerade Gala at Hilton Dallas Rockwall Lakefront this weekend, where hundreds of local benefactors were in attendance, and the leadership group took the opportunity to formally recognize Texas Health Rockwall as the new title sponsor for their project. A marketing video, created by Leadership Rockwall 2017 member, Heather Nichols, rolled out the announcement, along with a speech delivered by Leadership Rockwall Board Chairman, Sylvia Sotelo-Kidd, which was followed by a roaring round of applause.
“Texas Health Rockwall is excited to partner with the Boys & Girls Club on this worthwhile project,” said Jason Linscott, CFO, Texas Health Rockwall, and Leadership Rockwall 2017 team member. “The value of technological knowledge is critical in today’s world both academically and professionally, and we understand the importance of sharing this knowledge with all ages. We even recognize that perhaps some of these students will be the next surgeons performing robotic surgery, diagnosing complex conditions or providing care to their community. It is our hope that through this partnership we encourage and promote a love of learning and discovery for future generations.”
Jenny Krueger, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Northeast Texas is ecstatic about the class’ decision to create the computer lab for the Rockwall students. “Words cannot express our gratitude for the considerable donation from Texas Health Rockwall in helping create the computer lab,” said Krueger, who is also a member of Leadership Rockwall 2017. “This is a gift that will keep on giving for years to come, and every time our students enter the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Rockwall Technology Lab, they will be reminded of the kindness and concern of this caring organization.”
The Computers for Kids project includes 10 desktop computers, 30 tablets, networking and safety features, and a technology center classroom makeover, carrying an estimated price tag of $40,000. This endeavor will provide the students access to technology (who otherwise do not have it), focused especially on enriching science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM, educational programs. In light of this recent generous donation, Leadership Rockwall 2017 is much closer to their goal, although they still have a way to go.
