Ben Parks Golf-A-Thon to benefit Rockwall children

(ROCKWALL, TX – May30, 2017) An exclusive event next week offers golfers in Rockwall an opportunity to honor a local hero and make a difference in the lives of children at the same time. The Ben Parks Golf-A-Thon Fore Kids is coming up Monday, June 5, benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of Rockwall.

An avid golfer, Ben Parks dedicated his life to teaching young men and women life values by using the game of golf. To honor Parks’ positive legacy, this event focuses on fun rather than the spirit of competition.

Unlike traditional golf tournaments, this event is limited to 18 participants, who each commit to raise at least $1,000 for the Club and will attempt to play 54 holes in a single day. The way it works is that each golfer will play three balls on a hole. Whenever the individual’s score on that hole reaches bogey, they pick up the balls, score the hole as completed and move on to the next hole. It sounds somewhat complicated, but rest assured it’s much more about having fun and enjoying the game than the competition.

Though he was never a pro-golfer, Ben Parks had certainly mastered the game and was passionate about the positive values it could instill in the lives of young people. In fact, he was known for freely sharing his expertise in life as well as in golf. Parks mentored youth in Rockwall and taught hundreds to improve their game and gain college scholarships in the process. Ben Parks donated much of his time and money to helping the Boys & Girls Club of Rockwall, as their values of community, selflessness, and excellence are aligned with the wisdom he sought to impart to others. Because of his efforts, and the lasting impact he made on the Boys & Girls Club of Rockwall, Ben Parks’ legacy lives on in the Club’s annual Ben Parks Award and the Ben Parks First Tee Program.

There are only a few spots left for those who would like to join in the Ben Parks Golf-A-Thon Fore Kids. It’s sponsored by the Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club, and takes place there next Monday, June 5, starting at 8:30 a.m. If you’re interested, please visit the website here for more information.
