(ROCKWALL, TX – May 4, 2017) It’s a sign that summer is coming. Historic Downtown Rockwall is preparing for crowds of people to start gathering around the Square—with the kickoff of the San Jacinto Plaza Music Series and the Rockwall Farmers Market this weekend, starting tonight. But it’s not business as usual, there are a few exciting changes to expect with this year’s lineup, including expanded offerings and a changing face of Downtown Rockwall.
The San Jacinto Plaza Music Series is adding Thursdays to their schedule this year and officially extending the performances through October. Now patrons can stroll through Downtown Rockwall and enjoy live music on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 6:30-9 p.m. May through October. This expanded schedule means there will be 75 live music performances in the Series brought to you in the San Jacinto Plaza—completely free to the public.
Tomorrow, Friday, May 5, the Downtown Association is sponsoring a Cinco de Mayo celebration with multicultural fun for the whole family, including a mariachi band and the Ballet Folklorico from Dobbs Elementary. Then, on Saturday, May 6, the same group is hosting the Movers, Shakers and Makers event. The open-air market provides an opportunity for local artisans to showcase their creativity, and fun food trucks will also be on hand for shoppers to grab a quick bite.
Also coming this weekend, the Rockwall Farmers Market will be bigger and better than ever before. Starting this Saturday, May 6, there will be more vendors to wrap around three sides of the Historic Courthouse. This always anticipated event is known throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex as being one of the area’s best. The Rockwall Farmers Market takes place every Saturday from 8 a.m.-12 noon, May through September.
If it’s been a while since you’ve visited the area, you may be surprised by the transformation of Downtown Rockwall. There are many exciting changes happening in the Historic District. Currently under development is a new pocket park nestled in the heart of Downtown for all to enjoy. Available to the public starting on Thursday, May 4, will be a newly constructed public restroom, located at 111 East Kaufman Street. Another new addition this year, the City’s first Art in Public Places mural project has been completed at 110 South Goliad.
