(HEATH, TX — June 1, 2017) The Rockwall-Heath robotics team “Black Hawk Robotics” recently competed at the Texas UIL Robotics State Championship where they won the tournament and were crowned state champions! The Black Hawks were also awarded the Robot Design award for the state of Texas.
This season, 140 FIRST Robotics teams from Texas competed at regional robotics competitions across the state. Thirty-two of these teams qualified for the Texas UIL Robotics State Championship. The State tournament was held over two days at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, TX. After 8 qualification matches, the Black Hawks were ranked second and advanced to the elimination rounds with 23 other teams. The Black Hawks were part of a 3-team alliance with the Robonauts from Clear Creek ISD and the Flaming Metal Robotics from Magnolia. During the elimination matches, the alliance went undefeated to capture the State Championship.
The UIL State Championship caps of an excellent season where the Black Hawks won the Rock City Regional in Little Rock, Arkansas, won the Brazos Valley Regional in Waco, Texas, and finished second at the recent World Championship event in St. Louis, Missouri. In Arkansas, the team also received the Chairman’s Award, the most prestigious award in FIRST Robotics. The Black Hawks also won numerous technical awards for robot design during the season.
