(WYLIE, TX — September 8, 2017) Wylie East High School theatre students will hold a car wash fundraiser benefiting a Houston-area high school theatre program on Saturday, Sept. 9, at O’Reilly Auto Parts (located at FM 544 and Highway 78) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
According to Wylie East High School’s Raider Theatre Booster Club President Del Thatcher, the students had originally planned to use the funds made from the car wash to get new curtains for their black box theatre. After Hurricane Harvey hit, they decided to donate their funds to help a theatre program located in the affected area.
Thatcher said Barbara Goss, theatre booster club board member and Wylie ISD school board member, reached out to a school board friend of hers who lives in Wharton, a small community located 60 miles southwest of Houston that experienced extensive flooding from the storm. According to Goss’s school board friend, the Wharton High School theatre building took on eight inches of water and much of the equipment, costumes and lighting were damaged.
The Raider Thespians made it official Thurssday morning when they selected the Wharton High School theatre program to be the recipient of their car wash fundraiser proceeds.
“This event is special to me as my daughter is a Wylie East theatre student and I am a graduate of Wharton High School,” Thatcher said. “It touches my heart to have my daughter’s high school theatre program helping out my high school theatre program.”
Pre-sale tickets are available, and the Raider Thespians will also take donations the day of the car wash. Those unable to attend the car wash can donate via this link — http://tiny.cc/raidertheatrecarwash.
