(ROCKWALL, TX – October 13, 2017) The Rockwall Women’s League (RWL) and Rockwall Noon Rotary Club joined together to pack backpacks for kids served by the Children’s Advocacy Center of Rockwall County (CAC). Dodie’s Cajun Diner at The Harbor welcomed Rockwall Rotarians and members of RWL into their restaurant to pack the backpacks with items such as pajamas, socks, toothpaste, and Play-Doh. The group was also treated to free appetizers courtesy of Dodie’s as they worked to assemble the backpacks.
According to Nancy Parkes, a Rockwall Rotarian and member of RWL, the CAC serves 100 children a year in Rockwall, and many of them come into their care with hardly anything at all.
“They come to the CAC and they feel terrible about themselves, they don’t have anything except the clothes on their backs they came in with. So at least now we can give them something brand new, something that can make them feel good,” Parkes said.
The backpacks were presented to Patricia Mejia, director of the CAC, at the Rockwall Gun Club on Friday, Oct. 13.
The Children’s Advocacy Center for Rockwall County is an interagency, multi-disciplinary partnership dedicated to providing intervention, hope and healing for children and families affected by abuse, trauma, and violence, and to the prevention of child abuse through education and training.
