Fate DPS Chief Brian Griffeth Retires

FATE, TX (December 15, 2017) – Fate Department of Public Safety (DPS) Chief Brian Griffeth retires after thirty-five-year career in law enforcement on Sunday, December 31.

“These years of service have been marked by exemplary dedication to the best interests of the community, and Chief Griffeth has worked constantly for the betterment of the Fate DPS, which contributes to the health, safety and comfort of this community,” said Mayor Lorne Megyesi.

Brian Griffeth began his exemplary career in law enforcement in 1984 with the Garland Police Department, where he worked as a police officer and as supervisor of the K9 unit. In 2007, he joined Heath DPS as public safety sergeant, and he later served as a lieutenant with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office in Montana.

His City of Fate career began in 2006 as a member of Fate Volunteer Fire Department as the Assistant Fire Chief and moved his way up to a full-time employee as Lieutenant Firefighter of the Fate Fire Department in November 2012. As a result of Griffeth’s high level of commitment for the department, technical understanding of all public safety areas, and his deep commitment to the community, he was named the first Director of the new Fate Department of Public Safety in July 2013.

As the DPS Chief, Brian Griffeth has overseen the establishment of the Fate Department of Public Safety, which provides the community with law enforcement, fire service, and EMS first response. He has been active in a number of professional organizations, including the North Texas Police Chiefs Association, the State Firefighters’ and Fire Marshals’ Association of Texas, and the United States Police Canine Association.

Randy Jones, Lieutenant of the Criminal Investigations Division will hold the interim Chief position until the new Chief is named.

Griffeth intends to return to Montana where his family owns land.
