(ROCKWALL, TX — January 16, 2018) Linda Mitchell Duran has announced plans to run for another term as the Place 3 candidate for the Rockwall ISD Board of Trustees. That election will be held in May of 2018.
Duran is a Rockwall ISD graduate as are all three of her children. A former classroom teacher and educator, the last 23 years of her public education career, she was an Academic Guidance Counselor for Rockwall High School.
Duran is still very active in her career in education as an instructor for KD Conservatory, College of Film and Dramatic Arts where she teaches Social Psychology. Additionally, Ms. Duran is a Consultant and Certified Trainer for The National Institute for Trauma and Loss in Children. She conducts trainings throughout the country to help educators as they help hurting children
During her two terms in office, Duran has been elected Vice-President of the Rockwall ISD Board twice and President of the Board twice.
“The biggest honor of my life has been to serve this community and it’s children as President of the Rockwall ISD Board of Trustees,” said Ms. Duran. “To have had a small part in helping to make RISD the best district in our state is an incredible privilege, and I thank the people of our RISD communities for this opportunity.”
During the 2015-16 school year, Duran was selected for the prestigious Leadership TASB program. TASB is the Texas Association of School Boards organization, which leads and trains school board members across the state. Out of 8000 school board members, about 200-300 trustees apply for only 36 spots each year. Upon completion of this Leadership program, Ms. Duran earned the distinction “Master Trustee.”
“Without question,” Duran states, “what I learned in Leadership TASB to become a Master Trustee, has made me a more informed, knowledgeable, and productive board member for Rockwall ISD.”
Duran visits the schools every year in order to see first hand the staff and students hard at work and to determine school needs. Duran’s goals are to continue working to improve instruction, manage a fast growth district, keep and attract excellent personnel, and increase student achievement while making sure tax dollars are being spent effectively and wisely.
