(ROCKWALL, TX — January 5, 2018) Since its humble beginnings in 1973 and its first ever fundraiser event in 1980, Rockwall Women’s League has spent decades providing community service and raising over $3 million for local charities. This past year alone, RWL granted more than $60,000 to 17 Rockwall County nonprofits, including Helping Hands, the Boys & Girls Club, Women in Need, the Rainbow Room, the Children’s Advocacy Center, One Man’s Treasure, and Patriot Paws – as well as $120,000 in college scholarships to 16 graduating seniors.
With 2018 fast approaching, the RWL has set its sights on even bigger goals for the new year. The organization currently boasts 90 active members and 100 associate members, and they welcome the participation of all ladies who live or work in Rockwall County. The only requirement – you must share a common goal to serve and make a difference.
RWL member and Yearbook Coordinator Mary Bierds outlined some of RWL’s biggest events and opportunities for community-wide participation coming up in 2018:
Big Hats and Bubbly
The annual Big Hat Affair is set for 10 a.m. Friday, February 2 at the Dallas Athletic Club.
“Guests will don colorful and creative “big” hats and enjoy food, music, a silent auction, champagne, as well as a few other surprises,” Bierds said.
Bayou Bash Charity Ball
RWL’s 44th Annual Charity Ball theme is “Bayou Bash” and will be held at The Omni Hotel in Dallas on April 7, 2018. The Bayou Bash will incorporate Cajun, Creole, French, Bayou, New Orleans, and Mardi Gras influences.
“It will be a celebration of the state of Louisiana and its people,” Bierds said.
According to Bierds, the seated dinner will be catered by the Omni and the dancing afterward will be to the sounds of “Emerald City” Band. There will be a champagne reception for all, as well as a silent auction, big board and live auction. Emerald Sponsors of $3500 or more will receive a VIP reception.
The live auction will be run by Cowboy Auctioneers, an Austin, TX-based group that calls charity auctions for Matthew McConaughey and numerous large charity organizations.
“They are an amazing group and we are looking forward to them helping us set new records for our Bayou Bash,” Bierds said.
There will be a chance drawing for two separate shopping sprees at Willis Fine Jewelry and a trip donated by Cici’s Pizza and The Omni Hotel. Chance drawing tickets may be purchased from an RWL member.
This year will also feature a Reveler’s Party after the main event. Bierds said guests can “unwind, mingle and delight in some midnight snacks.”
Tickets to the Bayou Bash are $150, and tickets to the Reveler’s Party are $25. You can purchase online at www.rwlball.com.
