(FATE, TX – March 19, 2018) Lyle Lombard has been selected as the new Chief of Fate Department of Public Safety.
Lyle Lombard began his exemplary career as a firefighter in 1986 with the Alvarado Volunteer Fire Department, where he ascended to Captain and Fire Marshal. In 1992, he joined Watauga Fire Department holding the positions of Public Safety Officer, Training Officer, Fire Marshal and Emergency Management Coordinator. Lombard simultaneously worked part-time in 2008 for the City of Aledo as the Fire Marshal and until 2014 taught at Weatherford College as a Fire Instructor. Currently, Lombard is the Fire Chief for the City of Portland, Texas.
The Fate Department of Public Safety combines services of police, fire and first responder medical assistance.
“Three outstanding applicants were interviewed, however, the decision amongst the hiring committee was unanimous for Lombard.” stated Fate City Manager Michael Kovacs. “Lyle was the best fit for the Fate DPS because he is triple certified, a Master Peace Officer, a Firefighter and an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).”
Lombard will take the reins of the DPS beginning in mid-April. The Lombard family is planning to relocate from the Portland Texas area to Fate. Lombard stated he is excited to move to the area for many reasons, especially because he has family living in the DFW area.
“A tremendous thank you is extended to Randy Jones, Lieutenant of the Criminal Investigations Division, for standing in as the interim Chief role since January 1, 2018.” said Mayor Lorne Megyesi. “We are thankful for Lieutenant Jones’ service and are proud to have him as part of the Fate DPS.”
The Fate DPS Chief position became available after Chief Brian Griffeth retired on Sunday, December 31.
