Enhancing the services offered to children at the Children’s Advocacy Center for Rockwall County
(ROCKWALL COUNTY, TX – April 23, 2018) The Leadership Rockwall Class of 2018 has announced completion of a second project – thanks to a generous donation by Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Lake Pointe.
During the research and planning phase of the recently announced “Resource Hubs” project, class members of 2018 were made aware of a critical need for camera equipment at the new Children’s Advocacy Center for Rockwall County.
“A critical element of this project is ensuring that every child receives every service recommended for them, and that every effort is made to offer the highest quality of care. Quality and delivery of care is a critical aspect of a child’s healing,” said class member and CAC CEO, Patricia Mejia.
Mejia explained, “A second critical component of healing lies in the ability to work through the symptoms and behaviors related to trauma. In the healing journey, children should not only be offered the safety, security, and confidentiality needed, but also be made to feel welcome in a setting in which they will work through shame, guilt and fear.”
The class will also provide tools and toys utilized in the therapeutic process that can help in the healing process for these victims. “The CAC will benefit from these tools by helping to ensure that the highest level of care is sustained,” Mejia said.
Class member Kevin Clark added, “Signature Signs has also contributed to this project by helping create a child-friendly environment. They wrapped a hallway with artwork done by Chloe Fritz—a junior at Rockwall High School. Doors to rooms where direct services are provided were also wrapped with artwork. These elements help reduce stress at a time where that is much needed.”
The new CAC building will be open during the ribbon cutting from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 2. The community is welcome and invited to tour the beautiful building during this time.
The CAC Service Enhancements are made possible by the support of the Title Sponsor, Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Lake Pointe, and In-Kind Silver Sponsor, Signature Signs. Thank you to additional sponsors that made both Leadership Rockwall projects possible, Atmos, Farmers Electric Cooperative, Interstate Battery, and Crystal Widman – North American Title.
