(ROCKWALL COUNTY, TX – April 23, 2018) Rockwall County Clerk Shelli Miller was awarded the 2017 Five Star Exemplary Award from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Vitals Statistic Unit. Exemplary status is the highest honor awarded to Local Registrars throughout Texas by DSHS and is very difficult to earn. Out of 254 counties in the state, only 19 County Clerks met the stringent criteria to receive the award.
Ms. Miller said, “Just to give you an idea of how difficult this is to earn, one of the criteria is to have 100% of all birth records registered with the state within 24 hours of receipt. We can’t miss even one throughout the year.”
Ms. Miller received the honor for her diligence in timely and accurate registration of birth and death records, which has a profound impact on the citizens of Rockwall County. The Vitals Statistic Unit of DSHS presented Ms. Miller with the highly sought after award at the 63rd Annual Vital Statistics Conference in Austin.
Ms. Miller stated, “I have to give credit where credit is due. Vitals Department Deputy Clerk Donna Spann under the guidance and leadership of Supervisor Deputy Clerk Sandy Herrera and Chief Deputy Jennifer Fogg are responsible for receiving this extraordinary honor. This level of accuracy and service is what we strive to reach throughout my office.”
