(ROYSE CITY, TX – April 30, 2018)The Royse City High School ESL Program will host the ESL End of Year Ceremony at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 17 at the Royse City High School PAC.
José Carreon will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Jose is the Executive Assistant to philanthropist, Jorge Baldor. Jose graduated from The University of Texas at Austin; he is an alumni of Delta Lambda Phi; former executive assistant to TX Rep. Victoria Neave; and former Marketing and Operations Manager at the Latino Center for Leadership Development (LCLD). Jose interned for Think at KERA, Crew Productions, and Peer Mentor at El Centro College. Jose has given inaugural commencements at El Centro College. He is an inaugural recipient of the Bert Lozano DFW Hispanic Communicators Scholarship, the Telemundo Scholarship, and the University of Texas at Austin Bush Presidential Scholarship.
Johno Oberly will deliver the keynote speech. Johno is an educator, activator, and dedicated supporter of youth development. Earning his Masters degree from the University of Denver in Global Finance, Trade, and Economic Integration, he then came to Dallas in 2013 as a Teach For America corps member. He has taught Algebra I, Student Leadership, and Performance Poetry. After four years in the classroom, Johno transitioned to the non-profit space where he is currently collaborating with Dallas ISD high schools to install student leadership and development programs. Johno believes that student voice is the most important component to the construction of an education system that prioritizes progress while emphasizing safety and trust.
