Royse City ISD partners with Texas Department of Public Safety

(ROYSE CITY, TX — July 31, 2018) In May of 2018, Governor Greg Abbott released a comprehensive School and Firearm Safety Action Plan. Included in that plan was a recommendation for local law enforcement and districts to work closely on ways to increase school safety. Specifically, in an effort to heighten police presence on school campuses as referenced in the governor’s plan, Royse City ISD is proud to partner with the Texas Department of Public Safety. Starting in August 2018, DPS will have a dedicated office available to their Troopers inside Fort Elementary.

On the new partnership with the DPS, Superintendent Kevin Worthy said, “We are thankful for this opportunity to open our campus to the DPS. All of our local law enforcement partners show unwavering support and collaboration when it comes to protecting our children and everyone in our schools. There is no higher priority.”

This unique partnership is one of several steps Royse City ISD is taking to increase school safety. In June, a full-time safety administrator was named to oversee all safety and security efforts. In addition to the partnership with DPS, Royse City ISD also maintains great relationships with the Royse City Police Department and Fate Department of Public Safety. Three full-time School Resource Officers are in place across the district in addition to several security guards.

In addition to the DPS partnership, Royse City ISD has also extended an open invitation to the Royse City PD, Fate DPS and Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office to visit any campuses during the school day in an effort to increase visibility of law enforcement. Officers are welcome and encouraged to stop by for coffee and have lunch with students throughout the year. Dedicated law enforcement parking will be available at every campus.
