(ROCKWALL, TX – August 10, 2018) Williams Middle School Symphony Orchestra recently placed 4th in the state in the TMEA MS Honor Full Orchestra Competition in San Antonio, TX.
In May, the WMS Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Shari Allison and Bethany Jones, submitted a recording to the Texas Music Educators Association Competition where they were set to compete against all of the other full orchestras from across the state. This orchestra consisted of 7th and 8th grade students from the WMS Chamber Orchestra and Honors Band. Their program contained Dark Adventure by Ralph Ford, Themes from Scheherazade by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov (arranged by Richard Meyer) and Warrior Legacy by Soon Hee Newbold. In June, their directors were notified that the group had made it into the final round.
“I am extremely proud of the WMS Symphony Orchestra,” said Shari Allison. “A middle school full orchestra is a rare opportunity that gives the students of the band and the orchestra the chance to collaborate in a meaningful way. It also opens up the students and teachers to a wealth of different musical literature.”
This is the third time that the WMS Symphony Orchestra has been selected to the final round of the TMEA Honor Orchestra Competition.
