(ROCKWALL, TX — October 31, 2018) On Friday mornings before school, Pullen Elementary students and their parents pack the track for some fitness, friendship and family fun with the Pullen Panthers Running Club.
For the 2018-2019 school year, Pullen Elementary received a $3,500 grant from Marathon Kids and Nike to help create a Running Club for students and their families. From 7 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., Running Club participants hit the track at Cain Middle School. Students then strive to reach four marathon milestones on the track throughout the year. For every 10 laps kids complete, they receive a Running Club bracelet charm. Nike also rewards students who reach their marathon milestones with prizes throughout the year.
During Pullen’s end-of-the-year awards ceremony, Running Club students who achieved their marathon milestones also receive a t-shirt and a medal.
Pullen Elementary P.E. Coach Tim Bankston said the club presents a great opportunity for kids to remain active while having tons of fun.
“It shows kids through running that they can achieve more than they ever thought possible and puts them on the path to healthier lives,” Bankston said.
“I am just so impressed by how many families are on the track running and walking as the sun rises, as well as the commitment provided by the gym staff at the school to show up early and go the extra mile,” said Pullen mom Jen Heldreth.
Pullen Panthers Running Club is free and open to all Pullen students and their families. Parents with students ages Kindergarten through second grade must accompany their children on the track.
