(ROCKWALL, TX – Nov. 9, 2018) The students and staff at Linda Lyon Elementary had the joy of honoring veterans of the United States military with a special Veterans Day breakfast and program. They were honored to have over 50 veterans and numerous guests attend.
The student-led program opened with the presentation of our nation’s colors and the Lyon Pride choir singing the Star Spangled Banner. Lt. Col. Lorna Kipphut represented the American Legion as she shared about our duties as American citizens.
SFC Jonathan Haffener shared about his job as a medic in the United States Army and what that means for he and his family.
The Lyon Pride Choir also sang Song for the Unsung Hero and We Honor You.
Lt. Vern Ribera, a WWII Veteran, and Col. Mark Kipphut presented a handmade bench containing commemorative coins from various branches of the military to our school’s namesake, Mrs. Linda Lyon, and the school’s principal, Mrs. Megan Gist. The bench is now proudly displayed in the school’s outdoor learning center near the veterans memorial that was installed in partnership with the City of Heath.
