Rockwall recognizes young athletic superstar

(ROCKWALL, TX – Nov. 13, 2018) While Keviah Ealy is no stranger to greatness, it has to be pretty special to be honored with your very own day, especially at the age of 14! At its previous meeting, the Rockwall City Council proclaimed Monday, November 5, as Keviah Ealy Recognition Day. The freshman at Rockwall High School has been recognized for excellence in the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF) Summer Games. At the event this past summer, Keviah placed first in the long jump competition—setting a new TAAF state record for her age division.

Keviah’s first place jump came in at 18.05 feet. The teen competed against 40 long jumpers from across the state at the competition in College Station. The straight-A student and cheerleader at Rockwall High School also placed third in the 200 meter run at the July event. Interestingly, Keviah who is a member of the Rockwall Mustangs, had only competed for a short time in the long jump event before her successful record-breaking accomplishment.

As a member of TAAF, Rockwall operates two track teams competing within the statewide organization. TAAF provides the opportunity for amateur athletes to compete at both the regional and statewide level. “Keviah is truly a tremendous student athlete,” said Mark Lord, Executive Director of the TAAF. “Her talent and training enabled her to set a new TAAF state record this year at the Summer Games of Texas. The final competition featured more than 3,500 track and field athletes between the ages of 5-18 representing 17 regions from the State of Texas. TAAF is proud to have Keviah represent TAAF Region VII as the Regional Female Athlete of the Year.
