Police Warn Rockwall County Residents of Jury Duty Phone Scam

(ROCKWALL, TX – March 29, 2019) Rockwall County residents should be aware that an unknown male subject is attempting to con people out of money with a fraudulent scam. This subject is calling people stating that he is “Sgt. (or Detective) Shane Cannon with the Rockwall County District Attorney’s Office”. He then tells his potential victims that they missed jury duty, and, if they don’t pay him $1,500, a warrant will be issued for their arrest and they will spend 72 hours in jail.

THIS IS A SCAM. Shane Cannon is actually the Chief Criminal Investigator for the District Attorney’s Office, but no investigator for the DA’s Office has or would make a phone call like this. If anyone has information in reference to who is actually making these fraudulent calls, they are urged to contact the Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office at (972) 204-7001.
