(ROCKWALL, TX – April 4, 2019) The Rockwall ISD Culinary Team has advanced to the National ProStart Invitational in Washington D.C. after winning first place at the Texas State Finals in March.
This will be the third consecutive year Rockwall ISD will represent Texas in this national competition.
At the state competition, each Rockwall ISD student received $21,000 in scholarships from various culinary schools and universities.
The students who make up the 2019 Rockwall team are Preslie Mann (Sr. RHHS), Rachel Bristow (Jr. RHS), Maddie Demien (Jr. RHS), Ramsey Andersen (Jr. RHS), and Layton Ray (Jr. RHHS).
Rockwall ISD’s ProStart Culinary Team consists of five students from the district’s two high schools. The team is selected annually in the Fall from within the 300+ culinary student population and holds team practices at Dr. Gene Burton College & Career Academy.
ProStart is a culinary competition that highlights each team’s creative abilities through the preparation of a three-course meal in 60 minutes, using only two butane burners, and without access to running water or electricity. Students are evaluated on taste, skill, teamwork, food safety and sanitation, and must impress judges from leading industry corporations, colleges, and universities with skills they’ve developed through the ProStart curriculum.
