(ROCKWALL, TX – May 31, 2019) Looking for a job in today’s market can be frustrating, demeaning and lonely. Job Connection, a Ministry of Lake Pointe Church in Rockwall, has introduced a program of classroom-style training for people who are struggling in their job search. The workshops are free and open to everyone.

“You do not have to be a member of any church, group or even a resident of any particular geographical area to participate.  In other words – open to all, free to all; no obligation,” said Bobby Cornelius, lead trainer at Job Connection.

As a ministry, Job Connection’s primary objective is sharing Christ and building believers as they support and guide job seekers to their next great job.

“We are a Christian based organization that comprises Christian professional men and women who have the particular skills necessary to help guide, teach and support job seekers during what is typically a very dark time in their lives,” Cornelius said. “We are a totally volunteer organized, managed and run organization.”

The program is broken into two parts – Classroom-Style Training Workshops and Networking/Discussion Style Meetings. The classroom-style series begins Tuesday, June 4 and continues through the end of June, from 9 to 11 a.m. on Tuesdays Room A128 of Lake Pointe Church. The same workshop series will repeat in July and again in August.

The Tuesday workshops are conducted in sets of four, and the June schedule is as follows:

June 4, 2019: Workshop 1 – “Beginning the Journey – Learning your strengths and abilities as you develop your direction for your job search.  You will take time to remember, document, review and enjoy the many accomplishments you have had in your great career.

June 11, 2019 – Workshop 2 – “Resumes That Wow ‘Em” – Learn how to craft your resume into one-page marketing tool that will attract potential employers to you.

June 18, 2019 – Workshop 3 – “Interviews That Get the Job” – Learn interview techniques and study questions that will be asked in an interview.  You only get one chance to make a good impression in an interview.

June 25, 2019 – Workshop 4 – “Networking into the Hidden Job Market– The “Hidden Job Market” is real and those jobs are not typically found by trolling the job boards.  Learn how to uncover and be successful in the Hidden Job Market.

The networking/discussion meetings are conducted from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays in Room A128 of Lake Pointe Church, and are intended to be a supplement to the classroom training.

“Just as in school, when taking Art or Chemistry, there is a classroom portion AND a Lab portion.  Both are important. Oftentimes in a classroom setting, there is a lot of information to adsorb in a short period of time so the Lab is used to work out the detail with practical examples to further imbed the learning,” Cornelius explained.

The Thursday sessions are split into two parts: 1) a quick review (1 hour) of the topic that was presented on the previous Tuesday, and 2) another current, relative topic such as Salary Negotiation or Restarting a Job Search.

“One particular Thursday program is Mock Interviews.  In Mock Interviews, everyone has an opportunity to a “formal interview” with one of our seasoned professionals.  In the Mock Interviews, the participant receives something that they can’t receive when they interview with a company – FEEDBACK!  At the Mock Interviews, the interviewer gives the individual coaching, guidance and advice about how to improve their performance in the interview,” Cornelius said.

The schedule for the Networking/Discussion meetings are as follows:

June 6, 2019 Workshop  – Part 1 – Recap of writing and understanding success stories — Part 2 – LinkedIn Workshop

June 13, 2019 – Workshop  – Part 1 – Recap of writing your resume— Part 2 – Working with Recruiters and Staffing Companies

June 20, 2019 – Workshop  – Part 1 – Recap of Interview Techniques— Part 2 – Mock Interviews

June 27, 2019 – Workshop  – Part 1 – Recap of networking in the Hidden Job Market — Part 2 – Restarting a Stalled Job Search
