Magness, Rockwall County Open Space Alliance to Discuss Bond Election

Public invited May 21 to discuss purchase of available land for public amenities

(ROCKWALL COUNTY, TX – May 9, 2019) If you support open spaces throughout Rockwall County and its six cities for use as parks, trails, nature areas, view areas for the famous Rock Wall and a virgin Texas Blackland Prairie, please join the Rockwall County Open Space Alliance on Tuesday, May 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Historic Courthouse on the downtown square.

Precinct 4 County Commissioner David Magness will meet with the Alliance Board of Directors to discuss the possibility of a bond election to fund purchase of land identified by the Alliance.

The meeting will be held on the third floor of the courthouse (an elevator is available).

“It would be tragic if our residents were denied new parks and recreational opportunities – some around water resources, views of the rock wall, wildlife and historic farmsteads and ranches,” said Nell Welborn, Alliance board president. “Thirteen areas were identified by the Alliance that offer the best opportunities for large public open space amenities.”

Commissioner Magness, a proponent of the project, noted, “A bond election will give the county an opportunity and method for preserving property for generations to come.”

According to Ms. Wellborn, 95% of responders to an Alliance survey said that quality open space is either very important or somewhat important to a healthy and active lifestyle and overall quality of life in Rockwall County. She noted that only 14 percent of the responders believed there was adequate public access to recreational areas.

Please send questions and requests for additional information about the Alliance and its work to rockwallosa.org.
