(ROCKWALL, TX – Oct. 3, 2019) The Crave Café at the Dr. Gene Burton College & Career Academy recently had their first open night for the 2019-2020 school year. More than 150 people showed up in the three hours it was open.
The goal of the Crave Café is teaching students how to operate a successful restaurant in a real-world setting.
The Crave Café also allows the community to get involved and takes the student’s learning to a completely different level.
“Opening night for the Crave Café was simply outstanding,” said Chef Cody Hayes. “What I love most about this is how well our community supports our aspiring chefs and how much pride our students have in making this happen.”
Hannah Merrill, a junior at Rockwall High School, was in charge of designing the menu and is head of the dessert team. She admits to having a few butterflies before the big opening event.
“With every good burger comes a milkshake, right? With an estimate of about 150 people coming, I was a bit nervous about how I would handle all those milkshakes,” said Merrill. “When our big night came, I was very confident in our work, but I still had some butterflies. With the help of my team, we were able to deliver delicious food in a timely manner. We had a blast and are so happy to have accomplished our first Crave Café dinner.”
“They were true professionals and embodied what this program stands for: humility, dedication and sacrifice,” said Chef Hayes “They were literally beaming with pride all evening.”
All funds that are raised directly go back to the culinary program for future student projects.
