Rockwall YMCA Caps Off Successful Fall Sports Season of Fun and Fair Play for All

(ROCKWALL, TX — Nov. 12, 2019) The J.E.R. Chilton YMCA at Rockwall saw 1,200+ kids participate in its fall youth soccer, flag football and volleyball programs this season. A total of 862 players signed up for youth soccer, 227 for flag football, and 204 for volleyball.

The Rockwall Y’s flag football program saw the biggest increase in participation from last season, with 100 more players registering to hit the gridiron this fall. Each kid who strapped on a flag belt at the Y was eligible to catch a pass, carry the football, and score a touchdown – regardless of skill level or practice attendance.

Capping off the season was the youth volleyball championships held this past weekend. Purpalicious and Coach Heather Nichols were crowned champions in the 2nd-4th grade girls division, while Coach Josh Puckett’s Rockwall Tigers secured the championship in the 5th-6th grade division. Coach Puckett earned championship honors last fall in the 2nd-4th grade division with his Tigers squad.

The YMCA now looks ahead to its Winter Youth Basketball league, which saw a record-breaking number of kids sign up last season. Much like most sports programs at the J.E.R. Chilton YMCA at Rockwall, the Little Ballers and Youth Basketball League have no tryouts; kids participate in every game and receive equal playing time regardless of skill level. It’s all part of the YMCA’s philosophy of putting the child first and the sport second.

“At the Y, the focus is never on winning no matter what; it’s on providing a safe environment that encourages positive competition, and allowing every kid a chance to participate and enjoy the thrill of the sport,” said J.E.R. Chilton YMCA Athletic Director Dustin Davis.

Registration for Winter Youth Basketball ends on Sunday, Nov. 17. (a late fee will be assessed after this date). To register visit ymcadallas.org/locations/jerchiltonymca/sports/basketball.
