UPDATE (12/25/2019 9:30AM): Doni Todd publicly thanked those who showed up on Christmas Eve to fulfill her Christmas wish for her mom:

She wrote: “Thank you, Nic Collins and Living Hope Baptist Church, in Garland. Showing up this evening, and surprising mom with a few of your own to sing Christmas carols was the best gift! 🎁. We appreciate you all for spending your Christmas Eve with our family, and sharing the true meaning and spirit of Christmas. ♥️ Merry Christmas to all. “

Doni Todd of Woodcreek-Fate has a special wish for her terminally ill mother this Christmas – to surprise her with carolers at her door on Christmas Eve, donned in festive apparel.

“My mom is from the East Coast, where dressing up and caroling is still alive and well. We lost my dad unexpectedly a year and a half ago. Mom was just diagnosed with stage 4 small cell lung cancer, with less than 6 months in October. Their wedding anniversary is Christmas Eve, and would have been their 43rd. I would love nothing more than to find a group of people to dress accordingly, and surprise her on Christmas Eve by showing up at our door, singing Christmas carols,” Doni wrote to Blue Ribbon News, sharing a message she posted on Facebook.

The community responded. Angela Hranicky saw the Facebook post, contacted student pastor Nic Collins at Living Hope Baptist Church in Garland, and in less time than it takes to jingle a bell, over a dozen folks said they’d show up on Christmas Eve to sing carols for Carole.

The group plans to meet at about 4:15 p.m. Christmas Eve to practice before heading to her home that evening to lift their voices in hopes of lifting 76-year-old Carole’s spirits.

“The more carolers, the merrier!” Doni said, welcoming any additional members of the community to join in the surprise. Those interested should contact Nic who is coordinating efforts; his number is 214–784-1820 or email nic.c@mylivinghope.church
