By now you’ve probably heard that Roma’s Books, located at 555 E. I-30 in Rockwall (a couple doors down from Samee’s Pizza Getti Italian Bistro & Lounge and across from 24 Hour Fitness) is preparing to close its doors for good. A Store Closing Sale is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 22.
But when you’ve been serving the community for nearly 30 years by carrying both new and used books in all genres, including required reading reading for Rockwall ISD – it’s especially hard for customers to say goodbye.
Among those saddened to learn of the independent book store’s closing were Samee and Molly Dowlatshahi, owners of Samee’s Pizza Getti. They have been friends with owner Lynn Fate for nine years. They decided to honor their friend and neighboring business with a special event this Saturday, January 18. With over 30,000 books remaining on the shelves, they encourage everyone to come by Roma’s between 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday to buy some books and show your support – along with the chance to win FREE PIZZA FOR A YEAR.
In usual Samee fashion, Pizza Getti will host a big contest as a way of giving back. Those who purchase five books during Saturday’s event will receive one entry into a drawing to win one free large pizza. Purchase ten books, receive two entries; purchase 15 books, receive three entries, etc. From those entries, five winners will be drawn.
As if that’s not enough, those who purchase 30 books will be entered into a drawing to win one free large pizza every week for 52 weeks! That’s free pizza for a year! (Buy 60 books, get two entries; buy 90, get three entries, etc).
“Don’t need 30 books? Donate them!” Samee says. “Donate them to your school, your library. Teachers can always use books. We want to sell the book store out!”
Samee shared this video (below, produced by Ashlea Michelle Cain) on Facebook, and reached out to Blue Ribbon News to help spread the word.
“If you’re a parent, if you have kids, then you know what I’m talking about,” Samee says in the video. “At the beginning of the school year, if you needed something and couldn’t find it – she’d have it. This isn’t just about giving away free pizzas. It’s a token of our appreciation to a local business that has served this community so well for so many years.”
