Carter BloodCare donor center makes debut in Rockwall

Rockwall to house Carter BloodCare’s first donor center designed with social distancing in mind

ROCKWALL, Texas (June 27, 2020) – In a time where staying home is encouraged, Rockwall residents will now be able to save lives from the safety of their own neighborhood. Carter BloodCare announces the opening of its newest donor center, located in the Rockwall Ridge retail center – a residential and business community, making blood donation even more convenient for residents. The donor center will begin operations Monday, June 29, 2020.

The Rockwall location will be the first Carter BloodCare donor center built specifically to the recommended social distancing standards. The center will only host four donor beds as opposed to the normal eight bed capacity, providing space for people to safely donate.

“Citizens of Rockwall and surrounding cities have been supporting their community blood supply for years, with Carter BloodCare blood drives,” said Justin Grimsinger, one of the donor center managers. “The staff of the Rockwall Donor Center is eager to provide people with a full time location in which they can help save lives routinely.”

Rockwall is a hopeful location for Carter BloodCare as its residents comprise young people and families, a demographic the blood center would like to see donate regularly. Operations details of the Rockwall Donor Center are as follows:

As Texas reopens, hospital execs say just one thing is missing: blood for transfusions.

One-thousand donors are needed each day and Carter BloodCare is only seeing an average of 600 a day for the past six weeks. Because of this, Carter BloodCare’s ability to meet the urgent transfusion needs of patients is in severe jeopardy.

In the era of COVID-19, Carter BloodCare knows safety is top of mind for blood donors. These are some ways donors can do their part to help. To reduce wait times, donors can fill out a questionnaire online before they show up to donate blood. This means fewer people are waiting, making it easier to “social distance”.
