ROCKWALL, TX (July 10, 2020) From childbirth and breastfeeding classes to babysitting courses and support groups for bariatric patients, Texas Health Hospital Rockwall routinely offers a variety of community education classes and events. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the hospital is now offering the same quality instruction in online format, allowing participants to learn from the comfort and safety of their home.
Breastfeeding 101 VIRTUAL
Are you an expectant mom feeling overwhelmed at the thought of trying to breastfeed? Texas Health Rockwall’s Breastfeeding 101 VIRTUAL Class teaches breastfeeding basics, as well as challenges you might encounter. Certified lactation consultants cover what to expect, latching, positioning and possible roadblocks to successful breastfeeding. The cost is $25.
There’s still time to participate in the next class, which is at 9 a.m. tomorrow, Saturday, July 10. There will be another on Sept 12. Check Texas Health Rockwall’s website for additional classes and dates. Those interested may call 469-698-1301 and leave a message with your name, phone number and which class you are interested in. Someone will contact you to confirm.
Stork Navigator VIRTUAL
Expectant parents may participate in the hospital’s FREE Stork Navigator online class. Staff will share information on the admission process, how to prepare for your hospital visit, pain control options, visitation guidelines and baby safety. Due the virtual nature of the class, there is currently not an onsite tour option; however participants will get a glimpse inside. Your spouse or support person can “attend” online class with you.
“I’m excited to be able to offer this class! Childbirth can be an unpredictable event, so having the opportunity to learn about what to expect, ask questions, and find a bit of community with other expecting families is incredibly valuable,” said Kristy Gregory, who will lead the next Stork Navigator class at 6 p.m. Monday, July 13. “We discuss topics like where to enter the building, how to fill out the birth certificate, and what food options are available, as well as some more significant topics like the types of pain management we provide, newborn care, and how to prepare for discharge.”
Kristy added, “With the ability to share this information virtually, I am hoping to reach even more families that may not have felt comfortable, or had the time or resources to come to the hospital for class in person. Whether it is your first or fourth delivery, every mom has to face some unknown challenges. Being able to shine some light on a few of those topics allows me to give power and confidence back to the moms and families that are preparing to deliver with us, and that, for me, is truly rewarding!”
The Stork Navigator class is intended for expectant parents planning a delivery at Texas Health Rockwall; however, all are welcome. Another Stork Navigator class is set for July 27.To register, please call 469-698-1301 and leave a message with your name, phone number and which class you are interested in. You will be contacted by one a department team member to confirm.
Additional classes are added regularly; be sure to follow Texas Health Rockwall’s facebook page or check their website for updates.
