Sheriff’s Office reports zero positive cases of COVID among inmates at Rockwall County Detention Center

ROCKWALL, TX – August 3, 2020 – On July 27, 2020, the Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office partnered with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and Curative Inc. to provide and administer 270 COVID-19 tests to personnel and contractors at the Sheriff’s Office, as well as inmates housed in the Rockwall County Detention Center.

As of August 3, 2020, the Rockwall County Detention Center has not had one single inmate in-custody screen positive for COVID-19. Since the onset of the pandemic, approximately 35% of the Detention Division personnel have been placed on quarantine according to the CDC guidelines and the Texas Commission on Jail Standards, which may have attributed to the COVID-19 mitigation and containment efforts being implemented.

All Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office personnel have continued to endeavor and perform with courage and resilience through this pandemic and aid in the Sheriff’s Office sustained success. The Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office would like to also recognize the Rockwall County Emergency Management Office, Commissioners Court, District Attorney’s Office, Judges, Courts, Human Resources, I.T., and Maintenance for their continuous support, assistance, patience, and understanding through the many changes in operations.
