Couple reunited: Rockwall health and rehab center welcomes first visitor in six months

ROCKWALL, TX (Sept. 28, 2020) Mrs. Peterson, a resident at Highland Meadows Health and Rehab in Rockwall, received a long-awaited embrace from her husband this morning as the facility opened its doors for Essential Caregiver Visitation – the first time in six months.

Highland Meadows, located at 1870 John King Blvd., has remained COVID-19 free throughout the pandemic. When Governor Abbott directed the Texas Health and Human Services Commission to expand visitation options for eligible nursing, assisted living and long-term care facilities effective September 24, Highland Meadows began working diligently to put the proper policies and procedures in place to begin welcoming essential caregivers while continuing to protect patients and staff.

Among the requirements is that visitors must wear proper PPE and show a negative COVID-19 test within the last seven days (subject to change based on county positivity rate).

“The safety of our patients and our care team remains our top priority. We’ve been working diligently to ensure the proper policies and procedures are in place to allow essential/primary caregivers to visit while continuing to protect our patients and staff,” Highland Meadows wrote on its facebook page. “We are so thankful for this day as we understand how vitally important it is for families to reunite, and for caregivers to be able to visit and provide additional support for their loved ones.”
