Two local residents to be honored at Women of Color STEM Conference

ROCKWALL, TX (Oct. 7, 2020) Two area residents are being honored for their careers in science, technology, engineering and math at the national Women of Color STEM Virtual Conference October 8-10.

L3Harris Technologies employees Carmen Anderson and Anjali Manly are among 40 women nationwide being honored across 15 categories at the conference this year. Anderson is a senior specialist in systems engineering at L3Harris’ Greenville operation, while Manly works as a lead project engineer at the company’s Rockwall facility. Four other L3Harris employees also are being recognized this year.

“This award encourages me to continue seeking knowledge and excellence in all that I do. I try to encourage the kids, the way my parents always encouraged me,” said Anderson, who will receive the Technology All Star award, which honors those with 15 or more years experience in their field.

“It is so important for our daughters to know they have a place in STEM and can reach any goal they set their mind to. Programs like these are significant because encouraging diversity of gender and race, in turn, encourages diversity of perspective and thought,” said Manly, who will receive the Technology Rising Star recognition honoring those with 14 or fewer years experience in the workforce.

The WOC STEM Conference has been promoting the achievements of women across the STEM fields for 25 years. At the conference, award winners and other attendees have an opportunity to discuss key issues in the scientific and technical workforce, share best practices and participate in professional development, networking and recruiting. In addition, conference attendees can participate in virtual panels which will be comprised of leaders from Fortune 500 companies, government agencies and universities.
