ROCKWALL, TX – Nov. 12, 2020 – Nebbie Williams Elementary School teachers were recently surprised with a school supply shopping spree, courtesy of a former Nebbie Williams student, Lance Carter.
Lance is currently a junior at Rockwall High School, and was concerned when he heard about the extra expenses that were being incurred in an effort to keep students safe in the classroom and help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. He reached out to some of his former Nebbie teachers, including his first grade teacher, Teresa Fore, and his third grade teacher, Jennifer Henry, to see what items would be useful for them and their colleagues. Then, he took his idea to the pastor at his church, First United Methodist Church of Rockwall, and got approval to hold a church-wide school supply drive to support Nebbie Williams Elementary.
The congregation response was overwhelming, with over $1,000 donated for school supplies. Supplies were spread out in an empty classroom for teachers to “shop,” and included everything from markers and post it notes to paper towels and charts paper. Teachers also received $15 for specific classroom needs. Nebbie teachers were thrilled to have additional supplies to help make their classrooms safer and support some of the additional needs that they have this school year.
The staff at Nebbie Williams Elementary School is so grateful to Lance and to FUMC Rockwall for their generous support.
