Update from the City of Rowlett and Rowlett Fire Department
ROWLETT, TX – Dec. 17, 2020 – On Saturday evening, a fire occurred in the Clubhouse of the Lakeview Pointe Senior Living development (7420 Lakeview Parkway) – this development is currently under construction and therefore unoccupied. The Rowlett Fire Department quickly extinguished the fire. On Sunday morning, fire was again reported at the same address, this time in Building 2 of the development, resulting in major damage to the building, including partial collapse.
The preliminary findings in the investigation currently underway by the Rowlett Fire Marshal’s Office indicate the fires were determined to be electrical, caused by an improper connection by the electric service provider of the natural/grounding portion of the 3-phase system, at the transformer, and after the appropriate inspections were completed. The initial examination shows this improper connection affected both the Clubhouse and Building 2. A definitive cause of the ignition in Building 2 cannot be determined without examining the interior of the structure and conducting an extensive examination, with testing of the electrical system components installed in the buildings by a licensed electrical engineer, and third-party laboratory. However, investigators are currently unable to perform a comprehensive examination of the interior because the structure sustained major damage resulting in the collapse of key structural elements in and around the area of origin.
City Building Officials, service providers, the general contractor, and the Rowlett Fire Marshal’s Office will continue to work together on this investigation as well as to ensure the overall safety of the project.
