ROCKWALL, TX – Jan. 10, 2020 – Rockwall ISD believes prekindergarten age children learn best with purposeful play in a caring, student-center classroom environment. The curriculum is developed around the Texas Prekindergarten Guidelines that includes 10 learning domains: Social and Emotional Development, Language and Communication, Emergent Literacy Reading, Emergent Literacy Writing, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Fine Arts, Physical Development, and Technology. The prekindergarten curriculum has a vertical alignment to our Kindergarten program to make a smooth transition in the students’ learning. RISD hires one certified teacher and one teaching assistant for every prekindergarten classroom to support individual student’s needs based on progress monitoring three times a year. Families and teachers work together to build on children’s natural motivation to learn through exploration and purposeful play. The partnership between home and school plays a critically important role in providing children with the proper foundations for school success.
Rockwall ISD provides Prekindergarten for students that live in Rockwall ISD attendance zone and are 4 years old by Sept. 1 of the current school year. Based on state criteria, some students will qualify for Free Qualifying Prekindergarten while other students that do not qualify for free prekindergarten may enroll in Rockwall ISD’s Tuition Prekindergarten.
We also offer Early Head Start and Head Start programs for birth to 4-year-old children.
