Rockwall County joins North Texas Children’s Advocacy Centers in uniting for Child Abuse Prevention Month

ROCKWALL, TX – March 29, 2021 –April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to bring awareness to the prevalence of child abuse in our community. As many as 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will experience sexual abuse before turning 18. But child abuse thrives in the dark, and continues only as long as it remains secret and hidden. By bringing awareness to the problem, Children’s Advocacy Centers in Dallas, Collin, Denton, Ellis, Erath, Fannin, Grayson, Hood, Hunt, Kaufman, Navarro, Palo Pinto, Rockwall, Somervell and Tarrant counties will equip adults to identify and report abuse, empower children to ask for help, and enable professionals to bring perpetrators to justice.

Did you know?

  • The Children’s Advocacy for Rockwall County served 445 unduplicated children and their families last year.
  • Texas law requires anyone 18 years old or older who suspects child abuse to report that suspicion.
  • Children’s advocacy centers across North Texas provide services to thousands of abused children each year.

Individuals, organizations and corporations can participate in these activities during April:

April 9 – Show Your Blue Day – Organizations and corporations throughout our community are encouraged to wear blue in honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month.

April 15 Art for Advocacy – hosted by Springhill Suites by Marriot Dallas/Rockwall. Art exhibit curated by Rockwall Art League. Tickets available on our website for an exclusive wine tasting by He Wines/She Dines.

April 25Blue Sunday – This event provides an opportunity for faith communities to get involved by organizing a special offering to benefit the Children’s Advocacy Center for Rockwall County or by asking faith leaders to share a statistic or story during the service.

Don’t miss our signature event, the 5th Annual Go Blue for Kids gala: A Blue Ribbon A-Fair will be held at the Hilton Dallas/Rockwall on Saturday, April 24. This state fair themed event will include an art walk, caricatures, pies, mid-way games, and even Fletcher’s corn dogs. The night will wrap up in a bang with an exclusive fireworks show off the Harbor.

You can also stand up for children by sharing the realities of child abuse, organizing an awareness event, or contributing financial or volunteer support to bring hope, healing, and justice to our most vulnerable populations.
