Senator Hall files Interstate Compact for Border Security
Senator Bob Hall

(Austin, TX) – Today, Senator Bob Hall has filed SB1254, the Interstate Compact for Border Security. To have even a chance of fighting the crisis at the border, the border states must have the jurisdiction to enforce the federal laws that the federal government is failing to enforce. Texas can obtain this authority through an interstate compact with at least one other state and the approval of the U.S. Congress. Article 1, Section 10 of the U.S. Constitution recognizes the authority of the states to create an interstate compact to be validated by Congress, (Presidential approval not required).  With just Congressional consent, the compact will become federal law and grant participating states the right of relevant federal jurisdiction. This right will empower participating states to gain operational control of the border and enforce existing laws.

“All things considered, the cost of doing nothing will far exceed whatever costs that arise in securing our border now,” stated Senator Hall. “Borders exist for a purpose, whether it be ancient Rome or modern America, controlling the flow of people crossing our border is critical for stability and protecting our citizens against violence. This need is even greater when considering our southern neighbor Mexico teeters on the edge of being a failed state embroiled in a quasi civil war with numerous drug cartels. While many gangs with ties to the cartels have already infiltrated our communities, the violence of Mexico does not have to be the future of Texas so long as the right action is taken now.”

Interstate compacts are not new. The states have created over two hundred interstate compacts since the founding of our nation.  Texas currently is a participant in many compacts, including the Pecos River Compact, Rio Grande Interstate Compact, and the South Central Forest Fire Compact. It is time for the Texas Legislature to accept its responsibility of protecting Texas’ citizens from the illegal alien-criminals and pass SB1254, which will give the Governor the authority to develop and enter into a Southern Border Security Interstate Compact.

Bob Hall is a Citadel graduate, an electrical engineer, a military veteran, and is currently ranked the most conservative State Senator in Texas. Bob and his wife, Kay, live in Van Zandt County and are members of Lakeside Baptist Church. Senator Hall represents Texas Senate District 2, which encompasses Delta, Fannin, Hopkins, Hunt, Kaufman, Rains, Rockwall, Van Zandt, and parts of Dallas.
