Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office detention center, courthouse receives surprise inspection

ROCKWALL, TX (April 30, 2021) The Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office had a surprise inspection of the detention center and county courthouse by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards yesterday.

At the conclusion of the inspection Sheriff Terry Garrett, Pct. 4 County Commissioner Janet Nichol, and Major Todd Calkins received a briefing by the Texas Commission Jail Standards Inspector advising of the results of the inspection.

“I am very proud of the job our men and women in our detention center do on a daily basis. They are to be commended for providing a safe environment for our personnel and inmates by doing what few would be willing to do,” said Sheriff Terry Garrett.



The annual inspection consists of areas such as inmate management, maintenance, programs and rehabilitation, inmate medical care, security, personnel training, commissary accounting and auditing, construction, staffing, recreation, fire and life safety procedures and equipment, food preparation, and nutritional diets and menus.

Unlike years past inspections the Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office and Detention Center has been tasked with the challenge of mitigation and protection of personnel and inmates during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the face of these unprecedented challenges and times there have only been eight (😎 inmates infected with COVID-19 and zero (0) deaths with these extraordinary efforts continuing.
