HEATH, TX – April 6, 2021 — The Rockwall-Heath Hawks soccer team advanced to the fourth round of the playoffs for the first time in school history with a 1-0 upset win over #7 Duncanville Friday.
“I told my guys leading up to this game that everything Duncanville does well, we can stop,” said Hawks Head Coach Phil Duhon.
And stop they did! Just like they’ve done all playoffs long, the Hawks held their opponent scoreless. In fact, it wasn’t until the 77th minute of the game that Hawks captain Jose Ramirez found the back of the net to win the match.
These type of grind it out matches are what the Hawks have prided themselves on all season. Opponents have found the goalkeeper tandem of Junior Rigoberto Tovar and Sophomore Eli Finley, along with the Hawks solid defense, a tough puzzle to solve these playoffs. The Hawks so far have had shutout victories in every round so far.
One thing’s for certain: if you score on these Hawks, you will have earned it.
“We’re a unit that’s tough to break down, and we just find the right moments to win games,” Duhon said. “The guys work hard together and really enjoy each other’s company.”
The Hawks head to Waco Midway High School tonight to face Klein Forest in the fourth round. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the gate. Go Hawks!
