ROCKWALL, TX (April 29, 2021) Rockwall County Helping Hands will host its annual Parking Lot Thrift Store Sale Thursday, May 13 at 950 Williams Street, giving people the opportunity to shop for gently used clothing, household goods, and many other items while supporting a vital community organization in the process.
While Helping Hands has implemented a plan operating the Thrift store and Boutique within the state public health guidelines, they are also offering people the opportunity to shop outside in the beautiful spring weather. You’ll find great merchandise at unbeatable prices…inside and outside on May 13.
“Our programs like Emergency assistance, the food pantry and Health Center depend on the revenue generated by the thrift store to continue to operate,” Kathy DiNuovo, Director of Stores said. “Funds from the thrift store also help cover the agency’s everyday costs of doing business.”
Helping Hands is accepting donations of new and gently used clothing and household items at the Thrift Store, as well as food, toiletries, and cleaning supplies at the pantry.
The need for financial assistance and food insecurity in the area increased dramatically during the COVID-19 pandemic, and Helping Hands is here, as it has been for the past 45 years, to give “a hand up, not a hand out” — one of the nonprofit organization’s mottos.
“At the start of the pandemic we did see our pantry usage surge, especially among first-time pantry users,” Tarren Oswald, Director of Emergency Services said. “We have seen the numbers level off in recent months but we are now experiencing higher than ever utility and rent assistance requests now that the moratorium on disconnects and evictions have ended. Thanks to your support, the mission continues every day to help the most vulnerable in our community.”
Helping Hands provides food to those in need as well as everyday vital essentials including utilities, shelter clothing, personal hygiene products, diapers, baby food, pet food, and more.
