Rockwall ISD Facilities Bond Committee presents Bond Referendum Recommendation to Board of Trustees

Diverse 60-Member Committee Focused on Managing District’s Fast Growth

Rockwall, Texas (April 20, 2021) –  At last night’s Rockwall ISD School Board meeting, Trustees heard a detailed presentation from the District’s Facilities Bond Committee (FBC) for a comprehensive bond package that could be placed before voters in a November 2021 bond referendum.

With an expected 21% increase in its student population by 2030, the Rockwall ISD Board of Trustees commissioned the FBC in 2019 to ensure the District has the facilities, infrastructure, and technology in place to support programs and ensure a bright future for all Rockwall ISD students.

Several members from the FBC presented the committee’s recommendation for a possible bond proposal to the Board of Trustees. The 60-member committee, made up of parents, staff, and community members, and directed by a professional facilitator, recently completed their final meeting to review the District’s financial data, current academic needs, projected student growth and overcrowding of secondary facilities.

After the extensive study, the FBC came to a consensus on the proposed bond package. The recommendation, presented as an information item only, includes new construction, replacement campuses, capital projects, and Districtwide facilities improvements for approximately $479 million.

Rockwall ISD’s tax rate has declined and is the lowest in 30 years. The Board of Trustees and Rockwall ISD administrators will review the FBCs recommendation over the coming months before deciding this summer what projects and propositions to include on the November ballot.
