Eight local nonprofits receive grants from Toyota of Rockwall

ROCKWALL, TX (June 7, 2021) Under the leadership of dealership owners Steve and Barbara Jackson, Toyota of Rockwall is known for its philanthropic support of the Rockwall community. From honoring local educators with ‘Teacher of the Year’-wrapped vehicles to drive free of charge for six months, to  transporting Meals on Wheels clients to doctor appointments; from ‘Packing the Pantry’ for Helping Hands, to Toyota’s recent participation in Cars of CASA benefiting Lone Star CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), the Jacksons and Team Toyota is all about giving back.

Most recently, Toyota of Rockwall is awarding matching gifts to eight different local nonprofits. For the Rainbow Room of Rockwall County, this means they are blessed to receive $1000 from Toyota of Rockwall and another $1000 from Toyota’s matching funds program.

“It’s such an honor to have been chosen,” said the Rainbow Room’s Carol Miskin. The Rainbow Room of Rockwall County provides essential items for children in crisis who are removed from their homes for their safety by the Department of Family and Protective Services caseworkers.

The Rainbow Room is an actual room, filled with emergency supplies such as diapers, formula, hygiene items, school supplies, which the caseworker can access 24/7, to get the things they need for their kids. Other items, such as clothes, car seats and beds, are purchased as necessary.

The Rainbow Room is all-volunteer, with no paid staff, no building expense, and very little operating expense, so that 98% of every dollar donated goes directly to the children. Board members are (front row, from left): Terrienna Cullins, Julie Bassett, Betsy Roe; (back row): Dorothy Burriss, Kim Pior, Carol Miskin, Jerry Welch.

A formal presentation is planned for March 8 and 9 at Toyota of Rockwall, located at 1250 E. Interstate 30.

Other local nonprofits receiving gifts include: Meals on Wheels Senior Services of Rockwall County, $4,000; Lone Star CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), $4,000; One Man’s Treasure, Rockwall, $2,000; Veterans Outpost, $2,000; Rockwall Community Playhouse, $2,000; LightHouse for New Hope, $2,000; and Friends of the Rockwall County Library, $2,000. Stay tuned for more photos to come from the check presentations!
