“McLendon-Chisholm is a one-of-a-kind city, with residents who fiercely try to protect a peaceful way of life and wide open, green spaces,” she said during her presentation.

Mayor Pro Tem Kipphut also noted that both population growth and property values have steadily increased through the years, even in some difficult economic times. According to Zillow.com, the typical home value in McLendon-Chisholm is $589,141, and the current population is 3,815 per the 2020 U.S. Census.

Accomplishments during the 2020-2021 fiscal year include: the groundbreaking for Mike D. Donegan Public Safety Building; an all-cash purchase for a new fire engine due to a healthy fund balance; a new wastewater line installed in the retail district, also purchased with cash; road repairs for Pullen, Klutts and Sonoma Verde; an animal control contract executed with the City of Rockwall; the launch of a new website; and the update of the audio/visual equipment in the City Council chambers.

“All of our employees are essential, and we are proud that City Hall has remained open and fully operational throughout the pandemic,” she added. The city also presented the 2020 Christmas Tree lighting and a 5k/Fun Run in the spring, under the leadership of Councilmember Trudy Woessner.

The city is currently in the process of updating its Comprehensive Plan, and a draft will soon be available for public comment.

“In summary, we are on the verge of real change, but smart growth means that we will preserve what we hold dear,” Mayor Pro Tem Kipphut said in closing.
