ROCKWALL, TX (August 17, 2021) The Rockwall Art League will present Claudia McCabe as its Demo Artist for the month of August 2021, when she will be demonstrating encaustic techniques. The RAL will meet at the Harry Myers Community Center, 815 E Washington Street, starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, August 25. The meeting is open to the public.
Encaustic is a wax-based paint composed of beeswax, damar resin, and pigment. Kept molton on a heated surface, the material is applied to a wood surface, then fused with a heat gun or heater. The method goes back to 300 AD. The word comes from the Greek word enkaustikos, meaning to “burn in”.
McCabe likes working with old photographs and turning them into something treasured. She feels so bad when she sees them in an antique shop, so she takes them home to give them a new life. She also inherited many going back to the early 1800’s.
During the program, the RAL will be answering any questions regarding the upcoming Fine Art Show that is scheduled for Oct. 15 to 17 this year.
