Rockwall-Heath Best Buddies welcome new members as they ‘pop’ back to school

ROCKWALL/HEATH, TX (August 20, 2021) Rockwall-Heath High School’s Best Buddies recently hosted a ‘Pop Back to School’ event to ring in the new school year with their buddies. The school friendship chapters are back in session and working to spread inclusion on campuses from day one.

Heath Department of Public Safety dropped by the event at Town Center Park to show their support for RHHS Best Buddies. Officer Martin’s police car was a huge hit! Popsicles, games, sidewalk chalk, and water balloons rounded out the festivities.

Best Buddies is the world’s largest organization dedicated to ending the social, physical and economic isolation of the 200 million people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).  For individuals within this community, Best Buddies helps them form meaningful friendships with their peers, secure successful jobs, live independently, improve public speaking, self-advocacy and communications skills, and feel valued by society. At the high school level, Best Buddies fosters one-to-one friendships between high school students with and without IDD. In this time of heightened social and emotional development that can be difficult even for teenagers without IDD, the Best Buddies High Schools program helps break through social barriers at an important time in a young person’s life.

Rockwall-Heath’s 2021-2022 Best Buddies Officers are Ruby Knox, President; Maddie McDaniel, Vice President; Brittani Lindsay and Marley Lasater, Fundraising; Jilian Schulte, Secretary; Grace Stilly, Historian; Colin Papp and Vivian Quinby, Recruitment; Emily House and Jillian Westemeier, Event Coordinators; and Abby Glaze, Friendship Coordinator.
