City of Fate named 2021 Community Economic Development Award Winner

FATE, TX (Sept. 19, 2021) – The Southern Economic Development Council (SEDC) has announced the recipients of its annual Community Economic Development Awards (CEDA). The City of Fate, Texas entry was the winner in the category of communities 5,001 to 15,000 in population. Winners were recognized at an awards luncheon held in their honor Monday, August 16, at SEDC’s annual conference in Tampa, Florida.

“Every year, SEDC recognizes those southern communities that set the standard for communications and displaying their many assets. In 2021, we again proudly recognized those communities by selecting them as CEDA Award Winners. Congratulations to all who participated and ultimately were recognized for this notable achievement. The traditional American South remains strong in in the attraction and retention of jobs as a result of your diligence.” said Bob Helton, SEDC Chairman for 2021.

The projects/programs submitted were recognized in the categories of business retention and expansion, business recruitment, community development and community involvement. Entries were evaluated on their innovativeness, transferability, community commitment and leverage, measured objectives and secondary benefits.

The City of Fate, Texas won for The Villages at Fate, which directly impacts the community as the new anchor for the revitalized downtown. With the increase in property value and new sales tax revenues, plus the jobs created by the new businesses leasing spaces, this project is the most fiscally productive development in the City.

The CEDA program not only recognizes excellence, but allows SEDC to promote successful, results proven programs that can be shared with other communities,” said SEDC President Gene Stinson. “We look for and encourage replicability as a key measure of success.”
