FATE, TX (Sept. 19, 2021) Finalists for the 2021 President’s Awards Program were recently announced in Austin. For over 30 years the awards program, sponsored by the Texas Downtown Association (TDA), has recognized outstanding projects, places, and people of Texas downtowns.
Fate’s commitment to economic revitalization has been incrementally realized through the erection of The Villages at Fate mixed-use project, the anchor development for Fate’s dynamic downtown vision. Due to the success of this project, the City of Fate has been selected as a finalist in the Design category for Best Commercial Interior and Best New Construction, and as a finalist in the Achievement category for Best Economic Game Changer.
TDA was established in 1985 to connect and serve communities that are committed to downtown vitality. The organization is an independent, statewide nonprofit that represents cities and towns of all sizes, economic development corporations, chambers of commerce, local associations, small businesses, and individuals.
“This building represents the beginning of what we’re hoping to be: a strong Fate with a vibrant core that’s financially productive and something our citizens can be proud of,” said City Manager, Michael Kovacs.
One hundred and seven entries were submitted in eleven different categories from communities across the state. Design and achievement categories were judged by separate panels.
The judges for design entries were: Kennedy Colombo, Jackson Galloway FGM Architects; Karen Dickson, Lower Colorado River Authority; Tim Hair, Dunaway Associates; and Martin Sanchez, The Sanchez Group
The judges for achievement entries were: Kathleen Frankford, Texas Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus; Marc Maxwell, City of Sulphur Springs; Gregory Pogue, IC2 Institute, University of Texas-Austin; and Ryan Short, Civic Brand.
Winners will be announced on November 4 at the President’s Awards Gala, held in conjunction with the 2021 Texas Downtown Conference scheduled for November 3-5 in Denton.
