Atmos Energy supports Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Texas all-day and after-school programs

DALLAS – Nov. 3, 2021 – Atmos Energy recently donated $30,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Texas to support all-day and after-school programs with healthy snacks, school supplies, and classroom resources for students in the Lone Oak, Greenville, and Rockwall communities.  The Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Texas provides a broad range of activities and services including homework help, mentoring, sports and recreation programs, arts programs, access to computer technology, service, and leadership clubs to more than 1,500 students.  This gift is one of hundreds made by Atmos Energy as part of an enterprise-wide Fueling Safe and Thriving Communities drive to invest in educational, literacy, energy assistance, and food security resources across the 1,400 communities it serves.

“Kids in poverty are six times more likely to drop out of high school than their peers and engage in damaging behaviors such as drugs, alcohol, gangs, and crime,” said Jenny Krueger, Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Texas CEO. “Atmos Energy’s generosity will help more than 1,000 students ages 6 to18 to reach their full potential through programs that emphasizes career and academic preparedness, healthy lifestyles, and character and good citizenship. Furthermore, this donation has helped launch our expansion into the Lone Oak community to provide year-around after-school and all-day programs.”

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Texas is a part of a global organization that operates more than 4,000 Clubs worldwide enabling all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens.  With the belief that every kid has what it takes, the Club is committed to promoting safe, positive, and inclusive environments for all through sports and recreation, arts, health and wellness, workforce readiness, character and leadership, and other educational programs.

“Every child deserves a promising future,” said Beth Dattomo, Atmos Energy manager of public affairs and Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Texas board member. “The Club provides our Hunt and Rockwall County students a safe place to go with enrichment activities and also provides a warm meal and nutritious snacks every day to fuel their bright minds.”

In partnership with hundreds of organizations, Atmos Energy’s Fueling Safe and Thriving Communities outreach benefits school districts, nonprofits, after school programs, and food banks through everything from backpacks and laptops to nutritious breakfasts to books that help early childhood learners read on level by third grade. Vulnerable households will also have access to funds through local energy assistance agencies that provide support with utility bills, weatherization, customer natural gas line repairs, and natural gas appliance repairs and replacements.
